Aldrington Railway Station, located in Brighton and Hove, serves the area of Aldrington on the West Coastway Line, approximately 3.1 km from Brighton. Originally opened in 1905 as Dyke Junction Halt by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, the station underwent significant changes in 1932 when it was resited closer to Hove and renamed Aldrington Halt. The platforms, initially built from wood, were later reconstructed in concrete by the Southern Railway.
Today, Aldrington Station is managed by Southern and features two platforms accessible by ramps from street level. The station is equipped with ticket-issuing machines, and there is no footbridge; however, a tunnel under the railway at the western end of the platforms facilitates crossing. The station’s proximity to the historical branch line to Devil’s Dyke, operational from 1887 to 1939, is still evident in the local road layout and building curvature.
Aldrington offers a typical off-peak hourly service to Brighton and Chichester via Littlehampton, with additional services during peak hours and a slightly increased frequency on Sundays. The station, once staffed during peak hours until around 1990, now operates with modern, reinforced plastic shelters on its platforms, reflecting its adaptation to contemporary needs while maintaining its historical roots.
