Canterbury East Railway Station, managed by Southeastern, serves as one of the two main railway hubs in Canterbury, Kent. This station, positioned on the Dover branch of the Chatham Main Line, is conveniently located just half a mile south of its counterpart, Canterbury West. Both stations are situated to the west of the city centre.
Originally opened on 9 July 1860 by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway, the station was initially named simply ‘Canterbury’. To distinguish it from the older station built by the South Eastern Railway, it was renamed Canterbury East on 1 July 1889.
The station is equipped with two platforms and offers facilities including a ticket office, electronic ticket machines, a café, and toilets. Accessibility is enhanced by a footbridge and lifts, which were added in 2021, ensuring step-free access to the city centre via a path along the top of the restored city wall.
Canterbury East provides regular services operated by Southeastern using Class 375 EMUs. The typical off-peak schedule includes hourly trains to London Victoria via Chatham and to Dover Priory, with additional peak services to London Bridge and London Cannon Street. The station also offers connections to local bus services, facilitating travel to nearby towns and attractions.
