Dungeness Lifeboat Station holds a notable place in maritime history, being the first station to receive the RNLI Shannon class lifeboat, named The Morrell, officially launched by HRH The Princess Royal on 31 May 2014. This station has a storied past, including its significant role during the 1940 evacuation of Allied troops from Dunkirk, and its unique 1950s ‘Lady Launchers’—local women who assisted in launching and recovering the lifeboat. The station is equipped to facilitate visits, with parking and disabled access available, and visiting times can be arranged by contacting the visitor coordinator. The lifeboat station also features a shop open on weekends and selected weekdays from March to December, staffed by volunteers.
