On Saturday Jan 18th Thomas Pakenham, the award-winning author of ‘Meetings with Remarkable Trees’, will be giving a talk in Etchingham Village Halls about his new book: ‘The Tree-hunters: how the Cult of the Arboretum Transformed our Landscape’.
A recent article about the book had the subheading “Thomas Pakenham, the eighth Earl of Longford, on his pursuit of plants, smuggling seeds out of China in his socks and the buccaneer tree hunters of the past.” He tells tales of pioneering derring-do by the men who gave their names to the plants in your garden.
Signed copies of this book would make a wonderful present for anyone who loves trees, or landscape, or tales of adventure.
Tickets are £15 (to include a glass of wine) available from Etchingham Post Office, or on-line by contacting Caroline Moore. Doors open at 7 p.m.
All proceeds will go towards the repair and maintenance of Etchingham Church
