Carols by Starlight

For anyone looking for something a bit different to do this Christmas, why not come along to The Observatory Science Centre on Sunday 7th December from 5 till 9pm for a festive evening of Christmas carols, mulled wine and mince pies.

After a heart-warming performance by the Southdown Singers the evening will continue with traditional fare being served in the café (originally an RGO optics lab). There’ll also be a festive tombola, plus the opportunity to do a bit of Christmas shopping with 20% off everything in the shop, including books, stocking fillers and gifts.

Winter is a great time to be viewing the heavens and to ponder on the mysteries of the Universe. So if it’s a clear night, the observatory will open up the domes, with telescopes ready to look at the wonders of the night sky. The Moon will be full on 6th December and was known in olden times as the ‘Moon Before Yule’, being the last full Moon before the winter solstice.

Booking is essential for this special event, with tickets priced at £10 for adults and £8 for children. Space is limited, so book early to secure your place.
