Sedlescombe in East Sussex Village Guide

The Hylands

Hi there

I am looking for information on the Hyland family of Sedlescombe. I am the Great Grandaughter of Frances Mary Hyland, daughter of George Hyland. George was a son of William Hyland (1822-1919) and both are mentioned in Beryl Lucey’s book on Sedlescombe history as poachers turned gamekeepers! They lived in Orchard Cottage and before that, Poweder Mills. Any information at all would be very helpful! Frances Mary (my Great Grandmothers) mysteriously married a Frenchman named Francois Bonnot … and I’ve yet to trace him and how they ended up together … and where my surname comes from! Many thanks, Sarah Bonnot
