Joyfull Roots at Hattons Yard is a vibrant community garden and cultural space located in St Leonards-on-Sea. This initiative, developed by the social enterprise Black Butterfly, focuses on supporting racialised and underserved communities through urban agriculture and cultural heritage projects. The site, which was one of the first community garden spaces created by the organisation, includes facilities such as a wood store, organic fruit and vegetable plants, compost sales, and a pop-up café.
Hattons Yard also offers training events and a rentable cultural space, making it a hub for community engagement and learning. Additionally, the venue is involved in innovative projects like setting up a community-led sky farm on a disused rooftop car park. Open to the public on specific days, Hattons Yard provides a unique space where community members can gather, grow, and engage in sustainable practices. The venue also offers volunteering opportunities and community space for hire, enhancing its role as a key local resource for social and environmental development.
