St. Mary the Virgin in Ebony is a fifteenth-century church constructed from Kentish ragstone. Originally located on a small island south of Reading Street, the church was carefully dismantled and rebuilt stone by stone in 1858. Its west end features a distinctive spirelet, and the interior centres on a three-light Perpendicular window. A modern stained glass window adds colour, while a Georgian Royal Arms provides historical character.
Regular services are not held here, but the church hosts special services for major festivals such as Christmas, Easter, Harvest, and Remembrance. An annual pilgrimage takes place to Chapel Bank, the original church site, where a service is held outdoors on consecrated ground overlooking the countryside.
St. Mary the Virgin serves as a place for the community to mark significant life events including baptisms, weddings, and funerals. Further details about services and events are available through the local parish office.
