Cooden Beach Railway Station, located in Bexhill, East Sussex, serves the local area and is a key stop on the East Coastway Line. Managed by Southern, the station was originally opened on 11 September 1905 as Cooden Golf Halt to cater to the residential expansion near the beach. It underwent several name changes, finally being named Cooden Beach on 7 July 1935 following the electrification of the line and significant local development.
The station has two platforms and is equipped with a ticket office and a mini-market, which has enhanced its accessibility and convenience for passengers. It underwent minor refurbishments in the mid-2000s to align with Southern’s branding, including new double glazing in the subway leading to the platforms.
Cooden Beach operates under a penalty fare system, with frequent services provided by Southern using both Class 171 DMUs and Class 377 EMUs. Typical off-peak services include hourly trains to London Victoria via Gatwick Airport, Eastbourne, Ore, and Ashford International, with additional services during peak hours. The station’s facilities and services make it a functional transit point for residents and visitors to the area.
