Seeking information on George Cronk who married a Mary Ann? George was born about 1828 and Mary Ann about 1831 in Guestling. The 1841 Census for Guestling shows him as a Rail Labourer aged 22 and Mary aged 20yrs. We guesstimate that they were newlyweds and wondered if their were any Marriage details in church records. Or maybe a family who are also researching the Cronk family in this area. On the 1861 Census they were living in South East London at Camberwell and we have been able to obtain fairly substantial information from thereon. Many thanks.

I have a Thomas Buffard (1777-1851) in my family tree. Thomas married Sarah Gain in 1803 in Guestling

Hi there, I was wondering if you could possibly help me. I have a Frank(Francis) Buffard in my tree, his mother was Mary Buffard and he was baptised on 22.7.1832. His mother was Mary Buffard and he had no father. Mary is living with William Buffard in the 1841 Census along with a Caroline Crittenden baptised 10.4.1825. I have drawn a total blank with Mary and wondered if you could shed any light on whether or not she is Thomas’s daughter or William’s as the only records I can find in the parish records for Guestling is a Mary Anne baptised in 1805. Any help would be very much appreciated as I have been going around in circles!
    Best Wishes,
    Sharon

    Hi Meg,
Thank you for your quick reply. I have been able to get all the stuff on your Thomas, but am unable to link him to my William (he was baptised on 10.10.1771). I need to link them together as I think that my William’s father was John Buffard from Westfield which could possibly make William a cousin of Thomas (who married Sarah). Unfortunately, I have drawn a blank with the parish records! Do you know any more? Have been going around in circles with this one! ARRRRGH!
    Best Wishes,
    Sharon

Sorry, Sharon. I have no further information on the Buffard / Bufford connection.

    Hi Ethel,
My William, bap 10 October 1771 was the son of John Bovis b.1725; d.1782 married to Elizabeth (no dates). I understand that John Bovis was the son of Thomas Bovis/Buffard bn Crowhurst 1698 m Hannah Wenborn (d. 16 Sept 1735)at St Laurences 21 April 1723. Is your Thomas the one that married Sarah Gain, if so, we link somewhere, but dont know how. My line is a Mary who should be William’s daughter, but can’t find the baptism record should be c.1805 mother possibly Jane/Jenny, but know she was with him in the 1841 census with her two illegitimate children!! Hope this answers your question?
    Best Wishes

Hi Dave, Mabel Marshall was my grandmother’s cousin. So I think we are 3rd cousins! I will send you an email in due course. From what my mother told me, Mabel’s husband died suddenly during the General Strike. Mum knew of their daughter Kathleen but not of any other children. I shall be very pleased to find out more.

    Hi Glynn,

Do you know about Thomas Buffard, hanged at Horsham 1832/3, for arson, buried Guestling. It eventually came out that he was innocent.

    Hi Dave,

    Thanks for yours.

What a tragedy – those were cruel times. I guess it must be Thomas bapt. 26.02.1807, buried Guestling o6.01.1832.
son of Thomas and Sarah (nee Gain). They are not from our branch of the Buffards but are descended from William King and Anne Bovis.
