Bowler Crab Theatre Company is a professional independent theatre company based in East Sussex, specialising in Shakespearean performances. Founded in 2013 by Artistic Director Stephen John, the company has a long-term goal to perform the entire Shakespearean canon over fifty years. Bowler Crab casts actors from prestigious institutions such as The National Theatre, BBC, RSC, The Globe, ITV, Channel 4, and film. The company is known for its UK tours and also offers repertoire performances for hire.
Bowler Crab is the resident theatre company at Half House Farm, a 16th-century performance venue, and The Mermaid Inn, a historic 600-year-old inn located in Rye. To date, Bowler Crab has produced over 32 Shakespeare tours, contributing significantly to the cultural landscape of the 1066 area. The company also acknowledges the support from various patrons including the Rye School of English, Arthur C Towner Ltd., and others, highlighting its community and business ties.
