Canterbury West Railway Station is a Grade II listed building and a key transport hub in Canterbury, Kent. Managed by Southeastern, it is the busier of Canterbury’s two stations and offers both main line and high-speed train services. The station was originally opened in 1846 by the South Eastern Railway, making it the first mainline station in the city.
The station features two platforms: Platform 1 for services towards Ashford and London, and Platform 2 for services towards Ramsgate and Margate. Both platforms are accessible via a subway and an overbridge, with recent refurbishments enhancing accessibility and facilities. These improvements include new lifts, tactile paving, updated toilet facilities, and revamped customer information systems.
Canterbury West also plays a part in the Southeastern High Speed service, which significantly reduces travel times to London St Pancras. The station’s historical significance is underscored by its Grade II listing, both for the main station buildings and its overhead signal box.
