Dunton Green is a small village nestled in the valley of the River Darent, just three miles north of Sevenoaks in Kent. It lies within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the North Downs, offering scenic surroundings and access to notable walking trails. The North Downs Way passes near the village, leading west towards Farnham and east towards the White Cliffs of Dover, while the Darent Valley Path follows the river from Sevenoaks to Dartford.
Historically, Dunton Green was known for its brick and tile industry, with the Dunton Green Brick, Tile and Pottery Works established in 1862. The site included clay pits and kilns, where fossils were often uncovered during excavation. The village’s former parish church, St John the Divine, built in 1889–90 from local bricks, was declared redundant in 1987 and has since been repurposed for commercial use.
Religious life continues with the Dunton Green Free Church, founded in 1873 and now part of the Congregational Federation, located on Station Road. The Anglican parish church is now St Mary’s in nearby Riverhead, notable for its green copper spire visible from Dunton Green.
The village has a traditional feel with several pubs along London Road, including The Miners Arms, The Dukes Head, and The Rose and Crown. Local footpaths provide access to Chipstead Lake and surrounding countryside. Dunton Green railway station offers regular services to London Bridge, Waterloo East, and Charing Cross, making it well connected despite its rural setting.
