About Halstead, Kent
Halstead is a village and civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent, England, situated close to the Kent border with Greater London. It lies 4.7 miles south east of Orpington and 6.1 miles north west of Sevenoaks.
The village’s name originates from Old English, meaning ‘safe place’ or ‘place of refuge’. St Margaret’s Church serves as the parish church. Notable residents have included botanist and photographer Anna Atkins, who lived at Halstead Place, and author Edith Nesbit, whose time at Halstead Hall is believed to have inspired her book The Railway Children.
