Hothfield is a village in Kent, situated three miles north-west of Ashford along the A20. The village is uniquely divided by Hothfield Common, a 58-hectare nature reserve of heathland and lowland valley bogs managed by Kent Wildlife Trust. This natural area offers a glimpse into the region’s distinctive landscape and biodiversity.
The village’s name derives from an old local dialect form of Heathfield, reflecting its historical connection to the surrounding heathland. To the south of the common lies the private parkland of the former Hothfield House, crossed by the Greensand Way footpath, which passes the medieval parish church dedicated to Saint Margaret. The church, rebuilt in 1598 after a fire, stands as a testament to the village’s long history.
