About Istead Rise, Kent
Istead Rise is a village in Kent, located three miles south of Gravesend. Its name first appeared on maps in 1907, originally referring to the only road in the area leading to Frog’s Island. The name may derive from a nearby field called Highstead, recorded in 1838.
The village lies 23 miles east of London along the historic A2 road. Nearby railway stations include Meopham, 1.7 miles away, offering connections to London Victoria, and Ebbsfleet International, 3.7 miles distant, providing Eurostar services to continental Europe. High-speed trains from Ebbsfleet reach London St Pancras in just 16 minutes.
St Barnabas Church, established in 1957, stands close to the village shops. The community centre, rebuilt after a fire in 2007, reopened in 2008, serving as a local hub. Istead Rise retains a quiet, village atmosphere with its historical ties to the surrounding Kent countryside.
