About Rodmersham, Kent

Rodmersham is a village and civil parish in Kent, located just south of Bapchild and southeast of Sittingbourne. The village is centred around Rodmersham Green, which lies towards the Highsted Valley and Tunstall.

The area has a rich history dating back to at least the reign of King Richard II, with the manor once owned by the Pordage family. Rodmersham House, a Grade II listed building, was renamed from ‘New House’ in 1615 and remains a notable historic residence. The Church of St Nicholas, a Grade I listed building, features a 15th-century timber sedilia and altar decorations inspired by 15th-century German ecclesiastical art.

Rodmersham Green was historically associated with orchards and once had a windmill built in 1835, which was demolished in 1969. The village contains six listed buildings, including Baker Cottages, Pardoners Cottage, and Vine Cottages. The artist Edward Ardizzone had a home at Vine Cottages from the 1950s and lived there until his death in 1979.
