Upstreet is a village in Kent, England, located along the A28 road within the civil parish of Chislet. The village features a mix of housing, with many homes dating from the 1950s onwards alongside several notable older buildings. Among these are the Grade I listed Upstreet Farmhouse, a 16th-century structure reputed to be haunted, and the Grade II listed Grove Court. Other listed properties include Hamilton’s and The Vision House.
Historically, Upstreet was involved in the 1830s Swing Riots, a series of protests by agricultural workers against mechanisation and poor working conditions, during which several farm fires were set. The village’s past is also reflected in its former amenities; once home to a railway station and various shops, many services have since consolidated, with the local shop now combining multiple roles such as post office and greengrocer.
Close to Upstreet lies the Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve and the River Stour at Grove Ferry. The Saxon Shore Way, a long-distance footpath, passes nearby, linking the village with surrounding areas like Chislet and Stourmouth.
