Hello Ray,
I don’t have any connection to the Douch family, as far as I’m aware, but thought I’d help with a little research. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website records that William Henry Douch was 29 when he died on 31 July 1917 and was the son of Lydia Elizabeth Douch of School Hill, Burwash.
William Henry Douch appears to have been born in early 1888 in Burwash, and was the son of Edward Douch (born Mayfield 1853) and Lydia Elizabeth Jenner (born Burwash 1861) who married in 1881. At the 1901 census they were living at School Hill and there were 6 children in the family – Annie, Edward, William, Charles, Ellen and Kate. I believe there was also a further son George born in late 1901
I hope this will help in tracing a Douch family member.
Best wishes,
Caroline

Hello Caroline, thank you for that information. I had in fact looked it up on the CWGC site. But I did not have the 1901 census info. If you hear of any more info it would be appreciated as my friend from Canada is coming over this next month and I was hoping to give him a lead. Thank you again for the reply and I apologise for the delay in replying.
Hello Ray,
William Henry Douch was the grandchild of John Douch and Eleanor Pattenden, who are my 3 x gt grandparents.
I descend from William’s uncle Charles Douch who was born in 1851 at Mayfield.
I am intrigued to know how this commemorative item ended up in Canada! Perhaps I have Canadian cousins that I don’t yet know of.
Hi
My name is Leslie Douch
My father’s name is Peter William Douch. He is 83 this year. His father was Charles Douch. He comes from Burwash I think but spent a while in Chaley. His mother died when he was very young. It seems he had a sister who was brought up by maybe an aunt. I think her name was Ruth. If you think any of above helps please get in touch and I will get more info from my dad.
regards
Les Douch

We are 3rd cousins – I think I have previously corresponded with your brother Trevor.
Andrew
Greetings Andrew. My grandfather is Horace William Douch born in Hasting in 1893 so I guess we are related in some way. I am currently compiling a family tree of the Douch family (quite a job) and would be interested in sharing any records that you have. My records show that George Henry and Eleanor had 4 children (Charety, George, Charles and Edward). Are you able to confirm this?
Horace emigrated to Canada in 1910 from Liverpool in company with A.W Douch. Horace returned in 1914 to join up for WW1. Perhaps this could provide a tie in with Canada. Regards.
