Five Ashes is a small village in East Sussex, forming part of the Mayfield and Five Ashes civil parish in the High Weald. Situated along the A267 road, it lies just 2.5 miles south of Mayfield village. The village once had a church dedicated to The Good Shepherd, which was replaced by an end-of-life hospice in 2019.
Recreational facilities include a large playing field suitable for football and other games, a skateboarding park, and a children’s playground adjacent to the village hall. Nearby Foxes Copse offers a wooded park with ponds, ideal for dog walking and enjoying nature.
Five Ashes is closely linked to Mayfield, a village with a rich history including ties to the Wealden iron industry and notable annual events such as the September carnival commemorating Protestant martyrs. The area’s heritage is reflected in its historic buildings and longstanding community traditions.
