Hellingly is a village and civil parish in the Wealden District of East Sussex, England, situated on the southern slopes of the Weald. The village lies near the confluence of the River Cuckmere and the Bull River, about two miles north of Hailsham. The parish includes several settlements such as Lower Dicker, Lower Horsebridge, and the hamlet of Grove Hill.
Historically, Hellingly was part of the Wealden iron industry. Notable heritage sites include Horselunges Manor, a moated Tudor manor house restored in the 1930s and now Grade I listed, and a Grade II* listed old water mill building. The parish church of St Peter and St Paul dates from the 13th and 14th centuries and is unique in East Sussex for being built on a Saxon circular mound; it features original medieval details and stained glass by Morris & Co.
The area once hosted Hellingly Hospital, a principal mental health facility opened in 1903 and closed in 1994. Today, two NHS mental health units remain: Amberstone Hospital, a specialist rehabilitation centre, and the Hellingly Centre, a medium secure unit managed by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the Cuckoo Trail, a 14-mile footpath and cycleway passing through the parish.
