Hello,
We are hoping to be moving into Northiam on 1/12/17.
We are moving from Hayes in Bromley and would very much like to integrate with village.
Does anyone know the history of Silverden Oast?

Hello,
Welcome to Northiam. Unfortunately, I don’t think this site gets visited very often, so sorry if you have felt ignored!
I had a look in O Rare Norgam & can only find a reference to Silverden Manor. If you haven’t already, join the Conservation Society, who may have some details. Mervyn Hayes is the Chairman & lives at Rose Cottage opposite the Muddy Duck (now sadly defunct!).
I hope you have discovered the Parish Magazine, which should help you to decide which of our many Societies you might like to join. You will be very welcome, just make yourself known to whoever is running a raffle – we do tend to recycle a lot of bottles of wine that way here!!!!
The Surgery, Dentist & Optician are all brilliant, and Jempsons & the Spar both surprisingly competitive. The DIY is unsurpassed – as I usually discover after having no luck at B&Q – will I ever learn?
Sorry I couldn’t answer your question, but I do hope you are very happy here.
Personal plug – JOIN THE BONFIRE SOCIETY! It’s a strange Sussex custom.
You are probably fully involved by now, but if you need any help, please contact me [reveal email] [reveal tel]
Very best wishes,
Karen Ayling
Hi Karen,
Thanks for your message.
Unfortunately I have had a serious accident so have not been able to become involved in village life as I would have liked to as I am housebound and my husband only comes at weekends due to his business in Hayes, however he has come today due to weather .We have been to D.I.Y and Wills and were impressed.
