Plumpton Railway Station, located in East Sussex, serves the village of Plumpton and is managed by Southern Railway. The station, which opened in June 1863, features two platforms and is situated 71.7 km from London Bridge via Redhill. It is historically significant, lying on the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway “cut-off” line established between Keymer Junction and Lewes.
The station is adjacent to Plumpton Racecourse and historically had a dedicated platform for the racecourse at the end of the village station. The old signal box, a Grade II Listed Building, remains a notable feature, although it is no longer in operational use.
Train services at Plumpton are provided by Southern using Class 377 EMUs. The typical off-peak service includes one train per hour (tph) to London Victoria via Gatwick Airport and one tph to Ore via Eastbourne and Hastings. During peak hours, the frequency increases, providing additional services.
Plumpton Railway Station has been part of various historical events, including a controversy over the closure of a level crossing in 2015, which was later resolved and reopened in February 2016. This station continues to serve as a vital link for residents and visitors to the area.
