Ghosts have been popular throughout the centuries, from Hamlet’s father to Scrooge’s three visitors, but how do we bring this very traditional medium into the present day? This workshop will look at the key elements of ghost stories, discuss how these traditional themes can be used or inverted to write a ghost story firmly set in the modern world. Including a writing exercise, this workshop is suitable for all levels of writing ability, from seasoned ghost story tellers and writers to those just starting out.
Melanie Atkinson is a horror writer living in Hastings. She is the author of several novels including the zombie thriller, The Last Night In Amsterdam and two short story collections. Her short stories have been published in numerous anthologies and she has run workshops at the UK Ghost Story Festival and Summer Scares.
