About Ashurst, Kent

Ashurst is a village in Kent, England, situated five miles west of Royal Tunbridge Wells. It lies on the border between Kent and East Sussex, with the River Medway marking the county boundary. The village was once a civil parish but merged with Speldhurst in 1934.

A notable historic feature of Ashurst is its 10th-century parish church dedicated to St Martin of Tours. The village’s past includes two watermills, now closed, and a weir on the River Medway, reflecting its connection to traditional milling and river management.

Surrounded by neighbouring settlements such as Blackham, Chiddingstone, and Langton Green, Ashurst retains a rural character within the Tunbridge Wells district. The landscape and heritage offer a glimpse into the area’s long-standing history and its role within the Kent countryside.
