Tidebrook is a small hamlet nestled in the parish of Wadhurst, East Sussex, situated between the villages of Mayfield and Wadhurst. The hamlet takes its name from the brook that rises in the valley, which is one of the sources of the River Rother flowing to Rye.
The heart of Tidebrook is marked by St. John the Baptist Church, built in 1856, located at the valley’s bottom. The settlement mainly comprises around 40 houses, many of which are old farmhouses or cottages originally built for farm labourers. Notable buildings include Tidebank Cottage, once the Fountain Pub, and an old schoolhouse that was formerly Tidebrook School for girls but was damaged by fire in the 1960s.
Historically, Tidebrook was part of the local iron industry from the 16th to 18th centuries, with remnants still visible in the area.
